Prevention of sinusitis

Avoid rapid changes in temperature. When sleeping in an air-conditioned room, switch off the air conditioner a few minutes before leaving the room and let the temperature in the room equalize with the temperature outside the room. When traveling in an air-conditioned car switch on the air-conditioner, after getting in the car and switch it off a few minutes before reaching the destination so the change in temperature to the outside is gradual.

In cold climates, before going outside into the cold from a centrally heated room, first go into another room which is not heated. This gradual change in temperature allows the body to gradually adjust to the change in temperature. Rapid changes in temperature can cause vasomotor changes causing the nasal lining to swell very rapidly. This can block the opening of the sinuses causing an attack of sinusitis.

Dry your hair throughly after a shower with a towel or a hair dryer. Avoid sitting under a fan or air-conditioning when your hair is wet.

Avoid mucous forming foods like dairy products, bananas, guavas and oily food.

Avoid cooling foods like cold drinks, cucumber, coconut water and ice-creams.

Use Ionizers wherever possible.
